AMD advanced micro devices logoAdvanced Micro Devices aka AMD, has supplied its Q2 financial results yesterday and, apart from a small net loss of $43 million, which can be attributed to GlobalFoundries-related expenses, they show some nice increases for the CPU and GPU designer.

AMD’s total revenue in Q2 was $1.65 billion (up from $1.57bn in Q1) with both the CPU and GPU businesses bringing in more money (compared to Q1), while operating income reached $128 million. The CPU unit’s sales rose 4% sequentially and 31% on-year, topping $1.12bn, whereas GPU revenue went up 8% over Q1 2010 and 87% over Q2 2009 and reached $440 million.

“Robust demand for our latest mobile platforms and solid execution drove record second quarter revenue and a healthy gross margin,” said Dirk Meyer, AMD President and CEO. “Our unmatched combination of microprocessor and graphics capabilities resulted in customers launching a record number of new mobile and desktop platforms. We added Sony as a microprocessor customer and continue to see our existing customers expand their AMD-based platform offerings.”

AMD expects a higher revenue in Q3. And probably a return to profitability too.
