Nvidia Announces New Mobile Workstation Graphics Solutions, Fermi Inside

Nvidia Quadro 5000M GraphicsNvidia before being dropped by Apple in the new 2011 Macbook Pro laptops announced new graphics solutions for notebooks. The new graphics solutions file under the Quadro brand and are for the mobile workstation market. New is the Nvidia Quadro 1000M, Quadro 2000M, Quadro 3000M, Quadro 4000M and Quadro 5010M.

Each model features NVIDIA Optimus technology for doing hybrid graphics switching between an integrated graphics solution and the Nvidia graphics without any fuss. Optimus is a tool used in most modern (2010-present) Nvidia powered notebooks and it’s been found to be a good tool for maximizing a machines battery life.

Nvidia has also noted that each graphics card will have NVIDIA 3D Vision Pro, NVIDIA Scalable Geometry Engine technology and NVIDIA GPU Tessellation Engine technology (OpenGL 4.1, Shader Model 5.0 and DirectX 11).

The more of the individual specifications for each graphics card (amount of CUDA cores, Video RAM and notebook sizes) are available below. The Dell Precision M6500 and HP EliteBook 8740w mobile workstations both have Quadro graphics cards that offer the technologies in the these new graphics solutions available to them.

  • Quadro 1000M (Mid-Range): 96 CUDA cores; 2 GB DDR3 memory; designed for 15.6-inch mobile workstations
  • Quadro 2000M (Mid-Range): 192 CUDA cores; 2 GB DDR3 memory; designed for 15.6-inch mobile workstations
  • Quadro 3000M (High End): 240 CUDA cores; 2 GB GDDR5 memory; designed for new 17.3-inch mobile workstations
  • Quadro 4000M (High End): 336 CUDA cores; 2 GB GDDR5 memory; designed for new 17.3-inch mobile workstations
  • Quadro 5010M (Ultra-High End): 384 CUDA cores; 4 GB GDDR5 memory; designed for new 17.3-inch mobile workstations
