Later this year in September ASUSTek will be adding a new luxurious ASUS ultra-thin to their large family of notebook computers. The 12-inch ASUS UX21 Series ultra-portable presented today during the ASUS keynote at Computex Taipei 2011 with an all-metal unibody design (anodized aluminum) and 2 second instant on from sleep mode.
From the image above you should already be able to gather this notebook is thin, exact measurements dictate this notebook is ~0.67-inches thin at its thickest point and it weights 1.1kg / 2.4lb. When the laptop launches you will likely be choosing either it or the 2010 Apple Macbook Air, the Macbook Air measures 0.68-inches at its thickest point and weights 2.3 pounds (1.06 kg) for the 11.6-inch model and 2.9 pounds (1.32 kg) for the 13-inch model.
On and inside the UX21 Series are many features lacking on the Macbook Air. For starters the ASUS will come with a 2nd Gen. Intel Core i3, i5, i7 processor (Sandy Bridge), the Air uses the aged Intel Core 2 Duo range of ULV processors at the moment. Other things you will find on the ASUS that aren’t available on the Air including; a USB 3.0 port that is powered allowing for charging phones and other gadgets, mini-HDMI output, and an SD card reader (11-inch Air doesn’t have it but the 13-inch does). –note that just like the Macbook Air’s the ASUS ditched an optical drive to achieve thinness.
The full list of features hasn’t been made available yet by ASUS but photos sure have, and below you can see photos of the UX21 Series and there is a size comparison photo just below including the 2010 Macbook Air’s.
