The 11.6″ Acer Aspire One 722 is available now in the US and Europe but is the $329.99 (€349) price too good to be true? The reviewers at LAPTOPMAG set out to find out the worth of this machine in their full review of the ultra-portable laptop.
The AO722 boosts one of those new AMD Fusion Accelerated Processing Units (APU) that are supposed to offer night-and-day performance differences for ultra-portables over the Intel Atom/Celeron CPUs and Intel graphics. The AO722 comes with one of the lower-end APUs from the Ontario C-series, the 1.5 GHz AMD C-50. The C-50 inside the AO722 boosts two x86 Bobcat processing cores and a AMD Radeon HD 6250 integrated DirectX 11 graphics core.
In their examination of the affordable Acer Aspire One 722′s performance LAPTOPMAG found that the general system performance was ‘mediocre’ overall. However the reviewers do note that the ultra-portable is capable of playing 1080p HD video (streaming and direct from the hard drive) well enough.
The battery life test that LAPTOPMAG put the AO722 through unearthed that this ultra-portable can last up to 6 hours and 53 minutes. Their battery testing methods force the laptop to browse the web over Wi-Fi until the battery is drained (or the system automatically turns off).
All in all the Acer Aspire One 722 can’t be compared to other AMD Fusion APU powered portable laptops but it’s also has a lower MSRP than other APU powered laptops. The AO722 is a case of ‘you get what you pay for’. If you want a system that is capable of word processing, browsing the web, and providing you with over 6 hours of battery life the AO722 might be for you.
