Sony has announced they intend to offer 15.5-inch version of their Sony VAIO S Series laptops. The Sony VAIO S Series range was launched earlier this year with 13.3-inch options only, the addition of 15.5-inch options will allow consumers who need the larger screens to still pick-up a VAIO S Series laptop.

The Sony VAIO S Series is a unique laptop in the VAIO line (and Windows notebook market) due to its ability to have an external sheet battery added to its bottom to expand battery life by as much as double. Sony is reporting for the 15.5-inch models adding the option sheet battery to the Sony VAIO S Series will bump battery life up to ten hours from the standard five hours the laptops battery alone should provide.

According to VR-Zone the new 15.5-inch should be on the market place starting this month, September 2011. The pricing for the 15.5-inch models hasn’t been announced yet, but I expect it to be a tad bit higher than the 13.3-inch VAIO S Series laptops that start at $799 currently on Sony Style.

Features mentioned for the 15.5-inch Sony VAIO S Series:

  • 15.5-inch wide-screen full high-definition (1920-by-1080 pixels) VAIO Display Plus with anti-reflective glossy finish
  • Intel Core i7 processor from Sandy Bridge family
  • AMD Radeon HD 6630M GPU with 1GB VRAM
  • Graphics switching system has Speed and Stamina modes and is called “Dynamic Hybrid Graphics System”
