Today Toshiba revealed their plans to offer a whole new cast of affordable laptops and netbooks in October. According to Toshiba the new laptops and netbooks will be able to meet everybody’s needs no matter the budget.
So, how many laptops are coming? To be blunt, a lot. According to Toshiba’s information there will be at least eleven new base models (not counting different configurations). Toshiba will have new laptops available this October for the Toshiba Satellite C600, L700, L735D and P700 series’ that range in size from 13.3-inches up to 17.3-inches. Let’s get to the individual break down for each series, shall we.
According to Toshiba the Satellite C600 series will be the entry-level range of the new troop, prices will start at $349 for the C600 series of laptops. Toshiba will offer a 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch size option for the C600 series, two sizes that are the most popular for laptops. Toshiba intends to offer AMD and Intel chip options with the latest offerings from each makers, Fusion APUs for AMD and Pentium and Core i3 Sandy Bridge for Intel. Other misc. features destined for the C600 include up to 640GB of hard drive storage, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory (configurable), two USB 2.0 ports, and DVD Super-Multi drives.
For the Satellite L700 series Toshiba wanted to focus on students and customers looking for a good laptop for the home. Screen size options for the Satellite L700 series includes 13.3-, 14-, 15.6-, and 17.3-inches. As with the C600 Toshiba is offering both AMD Fusion APUs (dual-core and quad-core) and Intel Sandy Bridge (dual-core) processors for the L700 series laptops. The storage space will, like the C600 too, max out at 640GB of space and for RAM Toshiba says there will be plenty of that (I’d guess 6GB max. configurable). Prices will start at $455 for the Toshiba Satellite L700 series.
The Toshiba Satellite L735D series isn’t a brand new laptop it’s the L635D with updated internals and it’s being launched on October 2nd. The L735DÂ is a Kid’s PC that features a design that’s more optimized for messy and destructive children. The new model will keep the same design but add an AMD Fusion E-Series APU in place of the Intel Celeron processor that’s been available. The new model is already up on the Toshibadirect.com website, thus exposing the planned $497.99 price for the new model, but you can’t order the laptop until October 2nd.
Toshiba’s Satellite P700 series is the higher end model of the lot and it’s designed for the entertainment notebook market, according to Toshiba. The laptop starts at $630 in price and boasts entertainment extras like Harman/Kardon audio and the option for adding a Blu-ray optical drive is also available with the P700 series. Toshiba will also include the top-tier Intel Core processors from the new for 2011 Sandy Bridge line-up, the laptops for the P700 series will have Intel Wireless Display enabled. Screen size options will include 14-, 15.6-, and 17.3-inches for the P700 series.
Now the Toshiba Mini MB505 is the lone netbook in the new group of full-sized laptops, and the MB505 is just your typical netbook. Design wise Toshiba notes that the MB505 will offer the same clamshell design and easygrip finish that their current netbooks. If you were hoping for AMD Fusion, sorry, Toshiba states the MB505 will be an Intel Atom powered netbook. Like their other netbooks the MB505 should be expected to offer great battery life and portability, Toshiba mentions. Prices will start at $300 for the Toshiba Mini MB505.
A reminder about availability, all of these affordable machines will be going on sale online and in retail stores this October. If you want to be able to configure your own specific model you should order from Toshiba’s online store Toshibadirect.com.
