Asus launches a brand new 18.4-inch laptop, it has a 3.5″ drive bay and supports dual HDDs

Asustek Computer Inc. of Taiwan has introduced a new desktop replacement class laptop computer to the European market in the 18.4-inch Asus X93SV. The new Asus X93SV features many great technical specifications, but really the main feature is the laptops ability to hold a 3.5″ hard disk drive in one of its two internal storage bays, most notebooks (even desktop replacements) only support 2.5″ drives –the second HDD bay is compatible with 2.5″ drives for the Asus X93SV.
However beyond the X93SV’s ability to house a larger 3.5″ hard disk drive the rest of the general specs. for the laptop aren’t that unique. Also the styling isn’t anything particularly special either for the X93SV, the laptops body design is very similar to designs Asus has used countless times.
According to reports by Softpedia and Laptop Spec the main features for the Asus X93SV range (there are multiple models that feature different CPU’s and RAM/HDD configurations) are as follows:
- 18.4-inch HD LED Backlight display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution
- Altec Lansing speakers
- Blu-Ray optical drive
- Up to Dual hard drives with a master 3.5-inch 1TB 7200RPM SATA HDD and a second 2.5-inch 750GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
- Intel Core i3-2310M, Core i5-2410M or Core i7-2670QM processor
- Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphics card (DirectX 11 supported)
- Up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM
- 0.3MP webcam
- 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth V3.0
- 3-in-1 card reader, USB 3.0, and HDMI video output
- 6-cell lithium-ion battery
- 4.11Kg (about 9 pounds) with battery installed
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
- Starting price: €1149
The starting price is pretty aggressive for the Asus X93SV and the optional upgrades, if we’re still talking about Asus, aren’t going to be too expensive for this 18.4-inch behemoth.
