Acer’s Ultrabook: The Aspire S3 slim laptop will hit Europe in November, start at €799

Europe won’t have to wait much longer for an affordable Ultrabook that’s on-par with the Apple Macbook Air 13-inch. This November Acer’s Europe division is reportedly going to have the 13.3-inch Acer Aspire S3 laptop available for purchase with a €799 start price.
Apparently the Aspire S3 will be available in November in four total models that are going to be priced and specced differently. According to TCMagaazine the prices for all the Acer Aspire S3 laptops that will be available in November are €799, €999, €1,199 and €1,399. Of those four configurations the only major difference will be the CPU and storage capacity and type (HDD+SSD or just SSD).
- €799 = 1.6 GHz Core i5-2467M processor, 340GB of storage (a 320GB hard drive and a 20GB mini SSD)
- €999 = 1.7 GHz Core i7-2637M, 4GB of RAM, 520GB storage (500GB HDD, 20GB SSD)
- €1,199 = 1.6 GHz Core i5-2467M, 4GB of RAM, a 240GB SSD
- €1,399 = 1.7 GHz Core i7-2637M, 4GB of RAM, a 240GB SSD
Other than the CPU and storage differences each Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook laptop computer that’s heading to full availability in November for Europe will have the same general specifications.
This means that each Aspire S3 will come with a 0.68-inch thin design, Windows 7 Home Premium, a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) CineCrystal LED-backlit display, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, Intel HD 3000 graphics (integrated), a 1.3MP webcam, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 2-in-1 card reader, two USB 2.0 ports, a HDMI output, and a 3,280 mAh battery.
When we looked at the results from a review of the base model (the €799 for Europe) the general system performance was noted as comparable to the Macbook Air, but the battery life was pretty weak on the Acer. Also about the laptops design it looks mostly metal but really the lid is the only part that’s aluminum the rest of the laptop (bottom, plamrest area) are colored plastic.
However the Acer Aspire S3 is a good Ultrabook for the money you pay, but you can definitely do better with a slightly thicker laptop like the 13.3-inch Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830 that offer better battery life and graphics performance than the Aspire S3 for less money.
