Is Apple working on a 15-inch Macbook Air?

Apple LogoRumor has it that Apple is working on a new larger ultra-portable laptop that will feature a 15-inch display. Ever since the current Macbook Air was unveiled in 2010 there has been a strong contingent of Apple fans asking begging Apple to release a more powerful 15-inch version. Apple is said to be testing a 15-inch Macbook Air thin laptop right now by Asian sources, but no photo evidence has been provided.

Envisioning a 15-inch Apple Macbook Air

Apple Macbook Air designApple really hit a home-run with their wedge-shaped Macbook Air’s design, could a 15-inch model jeopardize the advancements? There is no question that a larger 15-inch model would weight more than the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch Macbook Airs that are both rated at 2.38 pounds (1.08 kg) and 2.96 pounds (1.35 kg) by Apple. It’s almost guaranteed that the 15-inch model would weight more than 3 pounds and it may actually approach 4 pounds.

I anticipate that Apple will wait for Intel to release Ivy Bridge mobile processors that are supposed to be more efficient than the current Sandy Bridge mobile processors with improved central processing and integrated graphics processing performance. Intel is supposed to release their first Ivy Bridge processors in 2012, meaning that Apple would be inclined to offer new updated Macbook Air’s at around the same time they released 2011′s new Air laptops (July 2011).

However all of this is pure speculation until Apple makes an official reveal of a 15-inch Macbook Air laptop.
