Great news for shoppers looking to purchase a big 17.3″ performance laptop computer, two Toshiba Qosmio X770 models have been discounted by $250 on Toshibadirect.com (the official online store for the Toshiba computer company) for a limited time only.

You can pick up the Intel Core i5 powered Toshiba Qosmio X770-BT5G23 for $1,049, which is down from $1,299. The other model available packs a quad-core Intel Core i7 and it’s the Toshiba Qosmio X770-BT5G24 which is available now for $1,249, which is down from $1,499. The two models will jump back up to their original prices after 11/14/2011.

The Toshiba Qosmio X770 17.3″ series of desktop replacement class notebook computers was first introduced in June of this year. At the time of their unveiling the X770′s were being shown after PC vendors like Alienware and Asus had revealed high-end performance notebooks for the desktop replacement market. Like the other performance notebook vendors Toshiba introduced their new X770 laptops with the option for a 3D or non-3D model, the models available today aren’t equipped with 3D displays, but the 3D X770 offered something unique in that it had a glasses-free 3D 17.3″ LCD (that model is $1,249 now).

The X770′s featured options for fast dual-core Intel Core i5 CPUs or quad-core Intel Core i7 chips, also the full fleet of Qosmio X770 laptops come with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 1.5GB GDDR5 discrete mobile graphics cards. Toshiba’s non-3D X770′s only stand-out feature is their design, the Grey/Red gradient style is something other PC vendors don’t offer on their machines.

Design-wise the X770 is a laptop that some will love while other will hate. The color scheme will definitely be a turn-off for anyone who doesn’t want their laptop to be too showy.

Toshiba Qosmio X770-BT5G24 portsAlso the 8-cell battery pack on the X770 notebooks does bulge at the bottom giving the laptop the look of being propped-up on a stack of magazines, aesthetically the battery pack can be an eye-sore. However for ergonomics it’s a good design decision, because the battery helps raise the keyboard up a enough that i t can potentially offer some typists a better experience with the X770 keyboard (chiclet by the way, something some love and others hate).

By the way reviews have shown the 8-cell battery packed into the X770 is capable of lasting around 3 hours with moderate tasks being run, but turn the intensity on and the battery life will dip to around one hour.

Here is how the two Toshiba Qosmio X770 notebooks available on special stack-up against one another in technical specifications:
