Ultrabooks have become the sole focus of all the major PC vendors, most of the major market players have released/unveiled their own thin and light Ultrabook laptop computer for consumers. Rumors that HP has an Ultrabook in the works started to circulate almost immediately after Intel revealed their Ultrabook concept for laptops at this years Computex 2011 trade show in Taipei, Taiwan. However HP remained mum on any official details for a Ultrabook until earlier last month when the company revealed the Folio 13.

A bit bigger than your average 13.3″ Ultrabook

From press photos and first-hand accounts HP’s Ultrabook was described as the largest Ultrabook laptop yet, and to be true the Folio 13 is the thickest and heaviest Ultrabook that has been revealed yet. According to HP’s official specifications the Folio 13 starts at 3.3 lbs. for weight and 18 mm for thickness. To compare the Folio 13 to any one other Ultrabook it would probably be the Lenovo IdeaPad U400, both models shun the tapered wedge design that Acer, Asus and Apple use in their Ultrabooks in favor for more traditional notebook designs.

Unheard of battery life promised

With the larger size the HP Folio 13 has been equipped with a high-capacity 6-cell Lithium Ion battery that the maker promises will offer more than 9 hours of life. According to HP the battery life offered by their Folio 13 is leading the Ultrabook industry.

HP Folio 13 Series backFor Ultrabooks battery life matters a lot, the whole point of the class of computers is to be mobile and that requires good battery life. Other Ultrabooks have been quoted as having as much as 8 hours of battery life, on the HP.com product page HP says the Folio 13 Series’ included 6-cell battery can last up to 9.25 hours (a big claim). Nobody has put up an unbiased battery life report yet for the HP Folio 13 Series so we have to just take HP’s word for it.
