ASUS unveils new HD Eee PC netbook with a pretty powerful processor

You don’t normally purchase a netbook when you’re looking for a fast processor or graphics, the things that CPU and GPU maker AMD is doing for mobile PCs like netbooks are going a long way towards changing that.
Earlier this year AMD revealed their first crop of Fusion APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) for the low power PC market (netbooks and nettops). In the most simplest terms the APU is described by AMD as being a single chip that combines the CPU, AMD Radeon HD GPU (DirectX 11), and Northbridge all onto one low-power and low-heat chip.
For netbooks the AMD Zacate E-series and Ontario C-series APUs were made available, and the E-series APUs were the more performance oriented of the lot. Now as we move into 2012 the line-up of APUs is being updated by AMD to include better performing chips (faster CPU and GPU). A new AMD APU for late 2011 is the 1.65GHz AMD E-450 dual-core APU with AMD Radeon HD 6320 discrete class graphics (DirectX 11), the E-450 is the fastest Zacate APU available.

Asustek Computer Inc. of Taiwan has unveiled their latest ASUS Eee PC brand netbook. The new 11.6″ Asus Eee PC 1225B is larger than your average 10.1″ netbook, but it’s also got more performance and a higher resolution screen than the average netbook. The 1225B is available with the 1.65GHz AMD E-450 APU, two USB 3.0 ports and a 1366×768 resolution 11.6-inch LED back-lit display, according to Asustek.
On their own webpage for the new Asus Eee PC 1225B Asustek says, “[the Eee PC 1225B features] Superior performance with the AMD dual core processor”. And with the optional E-450 APU the 1225B is a speed demon in the netbook world, note the most affordable 1225B netbook comes with the 1GHz AMD C-60 dual-core APU which is a bit slower than the E-450 in both CPU and GPU tasks.
Right now Asustek is reporting their new Asus Eee PC 1225B is going to be offered in the customer’s choice of either Black, Gray, Red, Silver or White. Pricing isn’t available direct from Asustek, but Notebook Italia reports the 1225B netbook will start at €349 when it’s released in Italy.
