Staying to true to a styling pattern formed in 2011 MSI has revealed yet another G-series gaming laptop computer that offers a full HD 1080p LED back-lit display. The new MSI GT685 will going the well stocked army of 15.6″ 1080p laptops that MSI has at their disposal.

Features wise the new MSI GT685 is a lot like the other 15.6″ gaming laptops that MSI released this year, the only major difference is with GPUs. The new GT685 features a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M 2GB GDDR5 discrete GPU, making the GT685 the most graphically powerful gaming laptop that MSI has to offer for the 15.6″ market.

The GTX 580M was the top-of-the-line mobile GPU solution for NVIDIA in 2011. NVIDIA revealed the GTX 580M in June of 2011 and by late July 2011 benchmarks were published online that showed the GPU could handle all of the top titles with ease. You can check out the benchmark results from that time below.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M benchmark resultsAs a GPU the GTX 580M was a replacement for the previous years GTX 485M GPU, and the new GTX 580M offered better clock rates (better performance) while staying the about same in terms of power consumption. According to NVIDIA their GTX 580M GPU is based on the GF114 core which is Fermi, the same core some of their desktop graphics solutions like the GTX 560 TI were based on in 2011.

Specs for the GTX 580M are as follows:

Now to get back to the laptop at hand MSI isn’t releasing a price or precise release date, but that’s just MSI being MSI. We’ll get to see the laptop on display later this month at CES 2012 in all likelihood and the release should following soon after. Price wise I wouldn’t expect anything under $1500 for the MSI GT685 and it’s GTX 580M GPU, and standard quad-core Intel Core i7 mobile processor.
