MSI adopts Intel’s new dual-core Atom processor in their latest netbook

The new MSI Wind U180 netbook is your typical 10.1-inch netbook, you would have a hard time seeing it as a new model if you overlooked the Intel processor that’s inside the machine.
For their latest netbook computer MSI has gone ahead and adopted the newly released Intel Atom N2800 dual-core processing chip that chip giant Intel only recently formally launched with their Cedar Trail platform. The new 1.8 GHz Atom processor packs better central processing performance and integrated graphics performance over the previous generation of Intel Atom dual-core netbook processors, all while keeping power consumption at a minimum.
Right now the MSI Wind U180 has only shown itself in product listings for European retailers. If you do a Google search for the MSI Wind U180-N2813W7S (precise model number) you’ll find links for German retailers for the most part. In Europe the MSI Wind U180 is available for 349.99 Euros, a standard price for a brand new from factory netbook, but prices should fall after a few months of the U180 being available in the market.
The main technical specifications are as follows for the MSI Wind U180 netbook:
- 10.1-inch Slim Type LED display (1024×600)
- Intel Dual Core 1.86GHz Atom N2800 (1024 KB L2 cache)
- 1GB DDR3 RAM
- 320 GB SATA HDD 5400 rpm / min
- Intel GMA 3650 (shared memory)
- no optical drive!
- Wireless LAN 802.11 b / g / n
- 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
- integrated 0.3 megapixel webcam and microphone
- chiclet keyboard with 87 keys
- 2-in-1 Card Reader (SD / MMC )
- Color: Black
- 6-cell Li-Ion Battery
- Weight: 1.20 kg
- Microsoft Windows 7 Starter
MSI didn’t up the screen resolution for their Wind U180 Cedar Trail netbook, which is slightly disappointing. The WSVGA (1024×600) screen resolution isn’t very good for comfortable computing in my opinion and the truth of the matter is that the technology is available for MSI to jump to HD resolution screens for all their netbooks. Heck MSI uses those display technologies right now in a few of their tablet computers, MSI’s WindPad tablets have 10.1-inch HD (1280×800) resolution screens.
