Dell Announces New Vostro Laptops, Hopes They’ll Help Your Growing Business

Today Texas computer maker Dell revealed new affordable business laptops they hope will help growing businesses everywhere.

The new laptops include the 13.3-inch Vostro 3360, 14-inch Vostro 3460 and 15.6-inch Vostro 3560. The new models join the already established Vostro 3000 series of affordable business laptops that Dell sells through their small business webstore. From the three new models announced today the 15.6-inch Vostro 3560 is the only model available for purchase right now, the Vostro 3560 starts at $599.

Same Design, A Thinner 13.3-incher

With the new Vostro 3000 laptops announced today Dell hasn’t introduced any new designs, the look offered by the three new laptops is the same offered by the older Vostro 3000 series business laptops –Dell first announced the Vostro 3000 series in early 2011. The colors available are also the same with Bronze, Red and Silver offered across the three laptops.

Although the look of the laptops has remained unchanged the new Vostro 3000 series laptops are a thinner and lighter than the older models they each are replacing. For example the 13.3-inch Vostro 3360 measures 0.71-inch thick and weights 3.67 pounds while it’s older brother the Vostro 3350 weights a 4.5 pounds and measures a little over 1-inch thick. The 14-inch Vostro 3460 weights 4.92lbs and the Vostro 3560 weights 5.75lbs, so the 13.3-inch is the model to definitely go with iif you want something very light and easy to carry around with you.

The Vostro 3360, 3460 and 3560 each feature 1366×768 resolution LED backlit screens standard that feature a Anti-Glare coating. If you want a higher native resolution the Vostro 3560 offers a Full HD (1080p) LED backlit display with an Anti-Glare coating as an optional upgrade (standard in the most expensive $1,289 configuration).

Backlit keyboards are available with these new laptops, but Dell has restricted them to the larger Vostro 3460 and 3560 models only. Also for the larger Vostro 3460 and 3560 models only Dell has included tray loading CD/DVD optical drives.

New Performance Features

For the performance end of things Dell had included the new Intel Ivy Bridge 3rd generation Core i processors for all the new Vostro 3000 series business laptops. However the now-old 2nd generation Intel Sandy Bridge processors are still available for some configurations (the cheap base-line ones). From the 3rd generation of Intel chips Dell has gone ahead and included multiple dual-core Core i5 and i7 options along with one quad-core Core i7 processor for the loaded 15.6-inch Vostro 3560 laptop.

Intel’s new HD Graphics 4000 integrated GPU comes standard with every 3rd generation Intel Core i5/i7 based Vostro 3000 series laptop, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated GPU is included with every 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processors.

There are new dedicated graphics options for both AMD and Nvidia available with the new Vostro 3000 series. The 14-inch Vostro 3460 laptop has the Nvidia GeForce GT 630M and the 15.6-inch Vostro 3560 has the AMD Radeon HD 7670M. Between the two the AMD offering is the more powerful option, graphic intensive work will go smoother with the Vostro 3560 and the 7670M combo.

After the new, faster processors Dell also has new mSATA SSD options available for the Vostro 3000 series. The mSATA SSD’s when included with a Vostro 3000 laptop promise faster read and write speeds for files which result in shorter boot times and shorter wait times when loading up computer intensive programs like Photoshop.

For the mobile business person Dell has also added 4G LTE mobile broadband to the options list for the new Vostro 3000 series laptops. If you have the extra funds you can have your Vostro 3360 or Vostro 3460 laptop come equipped with the EVDO-HSPA mini-card that can deliver 4G LTE mobile broadband access wherever you can get a signal from a 4G LTE provider (requires a subscription to a 4G LTE provider of your choice).

Safety and Other Business Features

In the safety and productivity arena Dell offers fingerprint readers as standard features along with file and folder protector software, and free (for 15-months) Trend Micro security software. Like an increasing number of computer makers Dell also offers auto data backup to a remote site (for a fee) with their new Vostro 3000 series laptops.

To protect your laptops physical features Dell has included their “Accidental Damage Service” which offers protection to your laptop against drops, spills, electrical power surges and other “on-the-job accidents”. Dell also offers 24/7 support for these laptops, so if you have any issues you can always contact someone at Dell who will help you out.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS with Windows XP  mode pre-configured is what each new Vostro 3000 series laptop will get right out of the box no matter what model you choose.

Prices and Availability

As mentioned above the 15.6-inch Vostro 3560 is the only new laptop available for purchase today and it starts at $599. he other two new Vostro business laptops will be available on Dell’s online store starting on June 21st, 2012. The 13.3-inch portable Vostro 3360 will start at $649 and the larger 14-inch Vostro 3460 will start at $549.

With the Vostro 3360 and 3460 I expect Dell to have multiple configurations available for immediate order at varying prices start at $649 and $549. Right now Dell has a total of five different pre-configurations for the Vostro 3560 including the $599 base model.
