This week Samsung has announced new thin and light laptops the company will start shipping later this year in Q3. The laptops boast new thin wedge-shape designs and Samsung has also started using their ATIV branding with these new ultraportable computers. Already detailed was their new flagship ultraportable, the 13.3-inch Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus, which boasts Intel Haswell and a QHD+ (3,200-by-1,800 pixels) touchscreen display. Now it’s time to talk about the entry-level ultraportable for late 2013 from Samsung, the 13.3-inch Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite.
Expected to include AMD processors the new Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite was announced this past week as having a quad-core processor that is capable of up to 1.4GHz speeds. As we already mentioned the top-of-the-line ATIV Book 9 Plus will feature Intel processors from the new Haswell line, but to be more specific Samsung says you will see Core i5 and i7 ULT chips for the Plus model. Graphics power for all the ATIV Book 9 models come via integrated GPU’s, but for now we only know that the Plus model will have Intel’s HD Graphics 4400 chip and the Lite model will have a “shared” solution.
Although vague about the processor Samsung has confirmed many other technical features to be included with the entry-level ATIV Book 9 Lite laptop. Samsung says this new ultraportable laptop will feature 4GB of RAM/memory, up to 256GB of SSD storage, optional touch functionality for the 1366-by-768 resolution 13.3-inch display, an integrated 720p HD webcam, one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port, micro-HDMI and mini-VGA, Ethernet RJ-45 jack, headphone and microphone jack, 3-in-1 memory card reader, and Windows 8 operating system.
In terms of looks the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite will have a less-premium look compared to the Plus model, but with the Lite you do get three color choices. Samsung says consumers will be able to get the new Lite model in Ash Black, Marble White, and Wine Red. The Lite model has a glossy plastic body and the Plus model has an aluminum body, however the general lines you see on the Plus model are also offered with the Lite model.
