HP company building logoHP has already shown us their re-imagined mobile workstations with the new HP ZBook high-performance professional laptops, now the company has something new for their EliteBook business laptop line.

This week HP has released their new redesigned EliteBook family of business laptops, the HP EliteBook 800 Series. For the new HP EliteBook 800 Series portability and style are as much a selling point as the latest processing hardware from Intel and enterprise IT security features, just like the way HP designed the new ZBook mobile workstations.

The designs for this new crop of executive-level notebooks follows the Ultrabook design formula. However don’t get these new EliteBooks confused with the non-rugged Ultrabooks in HP’s consumer line. The new EliteBook 800 Series feature “MIL-STD 810G certification for business-rugged reliability”.

In order to achieve a level appropriate for military standard for ruggedness HP has designed their new EliteBooks with magnesium uni-body chassis that come reinforced with eye-pleasing aluminum accents. Also, you should know that each of the new EliteBook 800 Series laptops will come with a spill-resistant keyboard that does offer liquid drain.

Owing to the new Ultrabook-esque designs HP boasts that these new EliteBooks are 40 percent thinner and 28 percent lighter than the outgoing line. However portability in the business laptop arena isn’t solely based on the thinness or lightness of a notebook, the battery life of the machine is just as crucial as a slim design. For the new EliteBooks customers can expect all-day battery life out of the standard 3-cell and 6-cell batteries, but once you attach the optional battery slice you can see more than a full 24 hours of battery life with some models.

After taking care to provide modern designs that offer beauty, durability and portability HP also made sure to launch their new line of EliteBook laptops with a variety of display sizes that can cater to any professional. The HP EliteBook 800 Series includes the 12.5-inch HP EliteBook 820 G1, the 14-inch HP EliteBook 840 G1 and the 15.6-inch HP EliteBook 850 G1.

The base models for each of the three EliteBook 800 Series laptops feature a native resolution of 1366-by-768 on a LED-backlit non-touch panel. There are models with 1920-by-1080 resolution LED-backlit screens as well as multi-touch support in HD and Full HD varieties.

In the performance category the expansive HP EliteBook 800 Series you can purchase a laptop that has some of the latest hardware available. Cutting-edge features include 4th gen. Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, optional AMD Radeon HD 8750M 1 GB GDDR5 dedicated graphics (14- and 15.6-inch models only), and pre-configured speedy solid state storage drives that range in capacity from 180 GB up to 250 GB.

All of the EliteBook 800 Series laptops come with a set standard of features for the audio, ports, and wireless communications.

For audio you’re guaranteed an HD audio system with DTS Studio Sound through 2 integrated stereo speakers, and for video chatting with either laptops 720p HD webcam there are dual-microphones integrated for clearer audio performance.

Standard ports include three USB 3.0 (one charging), DisplayPort, VGA, combo stereo headphone/mic jack, RJ-45 Ethernet, SD memory card slot, AC power, and a side docking connector. The docking connector supports the new HP UltraSlim Docking Station, which is a new optional accessory for 2013 that adds to the overall professional functionality of each EliteBook 800 Series laptop when you’re inside the office.

As far as getting you connected is concerned the built-in networking chipsets for these business laptops provide 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi (2×2), 10/100/1000 Gigabit LAN, and Bluetooth 4.0. There are options to have WWAN radios pre-installed with your notebook so you can enjoy either LTE, EV-DO, or HSPA+ connections when you’re on the go.

If you were looking for a list of available models that follows a simple good, better, best hierarchy HP didn’t deliver such simplicity with these new HP EliteBook laptops. It takes HP some four pages to list all twenty-seven available EliteBook 800 series laptops.

However the wide selection does offer more choice for buyers. The prices on the HP.com website for these new laptops range from as little as $799 all the way up to $1,899, through that wide price range you will find non-touch and touch-enabled laptops.
